BiDiNG TiME - Tonbridge Arts Festival

UNUSUAL ROVING THEATRE PRODUCTION SHOWCASES THE TOWN FOR TONBRIDGE ARTS FESTIVAL

BiDiNG TiME (Tonbridge) sets the audience on a journey to discover clues about a young woman called Thyme.

From Bubbles Laundrette where the story begins, the audience walk up the high street, and through various interactions are asked to consider success, and what the town means to them. Its also a love story and takes place over the midsummer weekend.

BiDiNG TiME (Tonbridge) is a community production, part of an international project exploring a range of different responses to the same story. Already this year, BiDiNG TiME has been made in Croydon and Adelaide, Australia with other productions planned in Glasgow, London and South Africa. By interpreting the story to suit the local environment, the town is cast in a new light. The story is about change and climate change encouraging a better relationship to the natural environment. www.bidingtime.org <http://www.bidingtime.org>

BiDiNG TiME (Tonbridge) features local groups including Hillview Community Youth Drama group, and Cascade Dance’s youth company, alongside other local performers.

Producer and director Pippa Bailey lives in Tonbridge and wanted to tell the story here utilising local young talent, presented in a way that would showcase the town.

‘Like many people, I moved to Tonbridge from London when I had kids. Tonbridge is a very easy place to live but people seem down on the town. The BiDiNG TiME project is all about acting locally and this show has enabled me to make new relationships and appreciate the town.’

Pippa Bailey works as a freelance producer and director. She is co-artistic director for the Olympic Torch Relay event in Dover in July and associate director with The World Famous company of pyrotechnicians based in Hadlow.

BiDiNG TiME (Tonbridge) is part of Tonbridge Arts Festival.  www.tonbridgeartsfestival.co.uk <http://www.tonbridgeartsfestival.co.uk> It has the support of Kent County Council and EU funding exploring cultural differences between Kent and Pas de Calais.
