Such a Silent Place

These photographs were taken in the redundant church of St Thomas a Becket Church in Capel and were sent to Tonbridge Daily by local photographer Shane Straeche.

Shane said 'it's such a silent place to have a look around, and also the guest book is a rather interesting read'.

He said the story behind the picture of the sheep was amusing as the animal actually escaped into the graveyard, and whilst it gave the church keepers the run around he was left to snap up some shots in peace.

The church is open to visitors daily from 10am to 4pm. At other times, during reasonable daylight hours, it is possible to call at the white farmhouse opposite for the key.

It is believed that Thomas Becket preached either in the church, or under a yew tree in the churchyard.

Tonbridge Daily Photo #260 - Tonbridge Parish Church - Church of St Peter and St Paul

This image was sent to me by Shane Straeche. He said 'I dont think I've ever visited such a beautiful church, a shame not many people take the time to view its beautiful stained glass windows and its peacefulness, such a pleasant place to think, but such a stunning church to capture.'

The window is certainly worth a look and I think I will pay a visit to the church,  put on my Art Historian hat and do a reading of the images.

Tonbridge Daily Photo

Today's Tonbridge Daily Photo was sent in by Shane Straeche, who also took the early morning photographs around the Castle.

Squirrels are always scampering along the railings around the castle area on the look-out for their next meal from us humans. I can remember feeding them as a child, and it is still a favourite pastime with families who visit the Sportsground and the castle area.

Squirrels love munching on unroasted peanuts (with or without shell), and I believe pet shops sell a suitable munching mix for them. But remember to be careful, as they have very sharp teeth and nails, so keep a fair distance to avoid bites and cuts. If you do get a small squirrel injury it’s best to have it checked out.
