In 1895 a severe and long winter freeze continued in Tonbridge and the ice skating season lasted until 6th March at both Somerhill and The Ballast Pit.

Tonbridge Daily Snippet
In 1924 the places available to ice skate in Tonbridge were Somerhill Lake and The Ballast Pit which was rented by Tonbridge Skating Club.
