Discriminating Housewives shop at Frank East's

I found this ad for the former High Street department store in a guide of Tonbridge published in 1934. The language and the association in the copy are a reflection of a pre-war woman. I wonder what the modern woman makes of this one.

It made me smile ... and by-the-way what are 'fancy linens'?
