What a difference a week makes

Tonbridge Angels Football Club Academy
Tonbridge Angels Football Club have recently started a
Community Development Football Scheme which is aimed at getting local youngsters
involved in the game, and potentially uncovering some young talent.
The scheme is
being run at the club and has the backing of the FA. It is being officially
launched on the Bank Holiday Monday first team home fixture against Billericay
Town on April 1st at Longmead Stadium. All under 12’s will have FREE
admission to the ground, as will teachers accompanying children from their
school.
There will be plenty of activities going on during the
afternoon such as a speed gun challenge, beat the goalie, bouncy castle and a
skills competition to mention just a few. There will be some light refreshments
laid on in the clubhouse for children and teachers.
The Tonbridge Angels Football Club Academy will be in attendance and happy to talk to anybody about
their experiences since joining the Academy and the possible benefits to others
of this fantastic local opportunity of fulfilling their dreams.
There are potential benefits to local schools or youth
clubs as well, with weekly prizes awarded which include free admission to a
first team game for up to 50 children! This scheme has potential of moving on in
the future, and with it’s current backing from the FA it is hoped it will benefit
schools in a direct way of offering professional coaching for youngsters at the
schools themselves.

Historic Crest supports Comic Relief
The newly restored historic crest above the Rose and Crown portico is celebrating Red Nose Day with the Lion and Unicorn both wearing red noses.
I'm not sure if the hotel is actually supporting Comic Relief or raising money on the 15th March, (hopefully they are), but the sight does raise a smile. Don't forget to look out for them when you are next passing.

Banks of Crocuses
Guilt Free Cake at Howard Cundey Fundraiser
Last Friday was Big Yellow Friday, the Children's Liver Disease Foundation's yellow themed fundraising day, and with the lure of homemade cakes I dropped into the charity coffee morning at High Street estate agents, Howard Cundey.
Eating cake to help is an idea that I really like, especially as it's guilt-free, and the lovely people at Howard Cundey had made sure that they were going to keep everyone fed and watered with their spectacular home baking. And what a spread it was ... carrot cake, cheese cake, cup cakes and the most enormous Victoria Sponge I'd ever seen, and these were just a few of the fresh bakes on offer, all with a yellow theme.
The morning was a brilliant success and I believe the amount raised, by the glorious task of eating cake, was approximately £550. Well done to all of you, and what a friendly welcoming bunch you were. I'm looking forward to the next one.

No sooner have the unsightly scribbles been cleaned off ... they appear again. I don't get tagging. It's ugly, uncreative and unacceptable. These meaningless tags plague our neighborhoods, and undermine pride in the local community. It's negative, illegal and a blight on our society. If caught the perpetrator can be charged with criminal damage, given a criminal record, fined and can be ordered to do community service as a result. What I don't understand is that with all those possible consequences why is it so tempting to mess around defacing walls and public spaces.

Miracle Escape
I believe that yesterday a car driven by an elderly man mounted the pavement by the National Westminster Bank, Castle Street and crashed into the window of the barbers and the bank. As far as I know nobody was hurt which seems a miracle, and luckily the damage to the buildings was only minor. Thank goodness nobody was sitting on the bench as it is in rather bad shape.
