This image of a postman strolling around Tonbridge Castle lawn was captured in 1935. Note his very smart uniform complete with hat and mail bag slung over his shoulder. There are certainly no letter or post boxes along this pathway. I wonder why he was there?

Eileen Best ... I have some info. to pass on: Beech Lawn now belongs to Tonbridge School, housing staff and senior students - the house behind the high hedge immediately opposite the Avenue Gates. But the best approach for details of Dudley's career might be to Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council, as he was chairman of the (then) Borough Council and a truly prominent citizen of Tonbridge. My contact remembers him well, serving with him on the YMCA committee back in the 1960s. I hope this is of help.

Yvonne Coe ... I think Beech Lawn may refer to a 'house' within Tonbridge School.
