Tonbridge Saturday Market

Vale Road Market Car Park

Tonbridge Saturday Market was a thriving market when it was held on the Castle Street Cattle Market site in the old town.  It was on a compact site which bustled with energy, and was packed to the brim every week. Since its move to the windy, depressing and drab station car park in Vale Road it has lost whatever charm it may have had.  The photo above is mid-morning today when the market should be at its busiest, but it was merely a sorry, bedrabbled wilderness.

I try to stick to everything that is positive about Tonbridge here on the blog, but to be honest is this really what we want in the town. Don't we deserve better!!!  Doesn't the town deserve better!!!  This is nothing but a terrible, down trodden mess.  Is this really good enough for you??

What do you think?

  1. Agree it should move. This site is not ideal and causes traffic to slow and stop as people access the site via the zebra crossing. Makes traffic even worse on a Saturday.

    1. What people accessing the site? there are no customers! most of the people you are talking about are making use of the free parking on a saturday and going into the town, as an ex trader at this market i know what I am talking about, totaly agree it is a dreadful site and is depressing for the traders but it is easily accesible and if a market was truly wanted by the people of tonbridge it would be used more and attract more stalls.

  3. At least Tonbridge has a market. The Tunbridge Wells market site was redeveloped and after a few years without a market it was difficult to re-establish on its new site so failed.
