An anonymous poem I found on the spelling of Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells in Neve's 'The Tonbridge of Yesteryear'
We're the Old and Original township, and so
In writing her name Tonbridge uses an 'O'
Tho' funny it seems, it is perfectly true,
That the daughter-town always spells hers with a 'U'
